For those in water aerobics or swimming to keep in shape, the 1 to 3mm models are as thick as you will want to try. Above that your flexibility will be too restrained.
The front zipper is popular for some as it is easier to zip something in front of you than behind. Front zippers are a good feature if you want to “air out” when above the water. The flexible neoprene with nylon skin provides a very comfortable barrier from the outside conditions. (if you need a 5 or 6x, check out model 1200)
